    That the latest proposed settlements in the opioid litigation be approved by the BoCC, and the County Manager authorized to sign the necessary settlement documents.

While it is impossible to determine what any recovery will be, the figures to date suggest that the County has paid over $2,000,000 for insulin in the pertinent period. This contract will be paid on contingency (% of recovery) and that the costs are covered by law firm.

The Alachua County Tree Planting Program operates utilizing funding from the general fund 001.41.4150.572.46.60, and the Alachua County Tree Mitigation fund 264.41.4150.572.46.00. Adequate funding exists in both funds to support these actions.


There is no additional cost or guaranteed budget commitment for this agreement; the costs are part of the annual tree planting program’s regular budget. The County will purchase and plant the trees and the City will provide the long-term maintenance of the planted trees.

Interpretive materials including a kiosk and trail signage will be installed at Turkey Creek Preserve. Estimated cost $5,000 with funding support anticipated from Alachua Audubon Society Chapter of Audubon Florida. Adequate funding exists in 001.41.4160.537.52.00 (operating Supplies) and the operating category in 261.41.5587.537. (Land Conservation Fund- Turkey Creek Hammock) for interpretive materials costs.

The FY25 budget also includes $100,000 from general fund sources to support small farmer grants in FY2025. Economic Development has offered to fund the cost (up to $135/applicant) for up to 50 small farmers in Alachua County to take a course offered by UF/IFAS and create a Farm Plan. Funding for this will come from the Economic Development’s operating budget. There is $552 available in training and education: 001.45.4501.552.55.00 and there is available budget that will be reallocated to this line if needed.

    Approve the list of recommended 2025 Small Farmer Grants for a total award amount of $115,753.68. This approval authorizes the allocation of $15,753.68 from Revenue Recovery Funds for this program. The awards shall be distributed as follows: full funding for the 24 applicants who scored 29 points or higher, amounting to $113,535.11; and an equal division of the remaining $2,218.57 among the 3 applicants who scored 28 points, resulting in $739.52 per applicant.
