The meeting was called to order at 6:32 p.m.

Members Present:  Chelsea Carnes, Lucia Curta, Christine Johnson (alternate), Queenchiku Ngozi, David Ruiz, Carol Velasques Richardson, and Corey Williams.

Members Absent:  Peter Davis

Lucia Curta made a motion to elect Chelsea Carnes as Chair; Carol Velasques Richardson second; unanimous approval; motion carried.

Harley O'Neill updated the Arts Council on Spatially-Fed (presentation attached).  They are inspired by the new and emerging field of neuroaesthetics, which shows physical, scientific evidence that the arts engage the mind in novel ways, tap into our emotions in healthy ways and make us feel good.

Oaklianna Caraballo is the President of the Florida Association of Public Art Professionals.  They are preparing for their 25th anniversary and would like to work with the Arts Council to host their three-day conference in Alachua County in 2024 with 60-80 anticipated participants.  The $200 conference fee includes lunch for three days.

Gina Peebles presented the survey responses for the Artists Conference including suggestions on what went well and what needs improvement.

We exceed our 800 survey goal by 161 surveys.  We were 12 surveys short of our BIPOC goal.   

Leira Cruz-Caliz provided a demo of Open Gov as a possibility for future Call-to-Artist submittals and rankings.

The County Commission selected Stephen Whyte as the artist for both bronze sculptures.

The West Lawn Sankofa, in honor of the late Dr. Patricia Hilliard-Nunn, will be unveiled on June 19 at 10 a.m.

The mural "Let the Legend Live On" is complete.  A ribbon cutting ceremony for the Sports Event Center is scheduled for June 10 at 11:30 a.m.

The sculpture will be located in the Celebration Pointe median.

The silhouettes have been installed.

The consensus of the council was to update the grant application (page 8) to provide funding up to $4,000 for Mini Grants without a tourism component and $10,000 with a tourism component; awards would be capped at the amount(s) listed on page 1; require the Arts Council logo on printed materials; and strike "not have been a previous grant recipient."

Our July 3 meeting will be canceled in observance of the Independence Day holiday.
