Legislative Delegation

Commissioner Cornell inquired how the legislative delegation meeting went.

Chair Chestnut stated that the meeting went well. The toughest question was what the savings from the inmate medical expenses would be if the medical rates are changed for Alachua County. He stated it would be 10% but that a dollar figure is difficult because it is dependent on what the medical situations are at the jail at any given time. He stated that there did seem to be support for a local bill to allow the Jail to pay the Medicaid rate for medical services. The County will need to provide data to support the bill.

World Masters

Commissioner Wheeler stated that she met with the new University of Florida President and she wanted the Board to know that he was familiar with the area because he ran at the World Masters Event. The impact this event has had is good for the community and introduced the county to the world.

University of Florida Jacksonville Campus

The Board discussed the proposed Jacksonville FL campus of the University of Florida and the new golf course the University will be building in Alachua County.

There being no further business before the Board, the meeting was adjourned at 3:15 p.m.
