Commissioner Prizzia moved adoption of the agenda as printed. The motion carried 5-0.

2nd Commissioner Cornell

Transportation Planning Manager Alison Moss and Sheriff's Office Lt. Billy Beck presented the above item.

Commissioner Cornell, Commissioner Prizzia, Sheriff Emery Gainey, Commissioner Wheeler, Chair Alford, and Commissioner Chestnut presented comments. 

Commissioner Cornell moved the following:

1) Proceed with advertising the Ordinance related to Enforcement of School Zone Speed Limits.

2) Direct Staff to draft an Interlocal Agreement between the County and the Alachua County Sheriff’s Office regarding program responsibilities and revenue-sharing.

2nd Commissioner Chestnut

Chair Alford recognized Kali Blount who presented comments to the Board. 

The motion carried 5-0.

Planner Mehdi Benkhatar presented the above item. 

Commissioner Wheeler moved to authorize a request to advertise a hearing on a ULDC amendment related to farmworker housing with staff to draft a provision for outdoor areas for gathering and recreation with shade. 

2nd Commissioner Prizzia

Commissioner Prizzia, Planner Mehdi Benkhatar, Commissioner Wheeler, Chair Alford, Principal Planner Chris Dawson, and Commissioner Cornell presented comments.

CR 235

Commissioner Wheeler stated that she received a call from Iris Bailey about a tire blown out on CR 235 because of a pothole. She inquired if the County provides compensation for such damage. 

County Manager Lieberman stated that residents are free to make a claim with Risk Management however the County does not cover such damage.

High Springs

There is still a large number of citizens without power in High Springs. She has been in touch with the leadership about resources available. Large quantities of food have been lost due to the power failure. She is looking for anyone that can help set up a soup kitchen or a farm share food distribution. 

Living Quarters for Line Workers

Commissioner Wheeler stated that in conversation with Line Workers they are having to commute to Perry Florida for housing. She wanted to see it the County could offer housing at Camp Cuscowilla to ease the commute on those assisting the County. She would like to have a coordinated response in the future to provide housing for those assisting with disaster recovery. 

County Manager Lieberman stated that there are issues with the hotels being booked due to the football games scheduled in Gainesville. 

Commissioner Prizzia moved to use Cuscowilla for lineman for Hurricane Helene as needed. The failed to vote.

2nd Commissioner Wheeler

County Manager Lieberman stated that she will work with staff to see what is available. 

Yard Waste

Commissioner Cornell inquired when yard waste will begin being collected.

County Manager Lieberman stated that the contractor has been contacted but she is not sure of the commencement. The contractor believes they can make one full pass of the entire unincorporated area within 30 days. 

SNAP Benefits

Chair Alford stated that f you currently receive SNAP Benefits you have till October 6, 2024, to apply for food replacement to assist with any food lost due to the Hurricane.
