Chair Alford called the meeting to order at 10:03am

 

Commissioner Cornell moved to approve Commissioner Prizzia to participate via zoom.

2nd Commissioner Wheeler

The motion carried 4-0 with Commissioner Chestnut absent.

Public Workers Director Ramon Gavarette presented the above item to the Board. 

Commissioner Cornell, Ramon Gavarrete, Chair Alford, Ramon Gavarrete, Commissioner Cornell, Mark Sexton, and Commissioner Prizzia  presented comments. 

 

Commissioner Cornell moved to direct staff to meet with FHP to discuss what is needed whether a resolution or a comp plan, in order for the county to change the local maps for collector roads under 22 feet to limit truck traffic on those roads. Also, direct staff to prepare a chair letter to all of the enforcement agencies that enforce traffic control within Alachua County.  ASO, Florida Highway Patrol, GPD, High Springs, and all enforcement agencies.

Ramon Gavarrete, Commissioner Cornell, Chair Alford, Ramon Gavarrete, Commissioner Wheeler, and Chair Alford all presented comments. 

The motion carried 4-0 with Commissioner Chestnut absent.

Commissioner Cornell moved that staff also bring back options with regards to enforcement and fines in our local jurisdiction.

Chair Alford, Commissioner Wheeler, County Attorney Sylvia Torres, Chair Alford, and County Attorney Sylvia Torres presented comments. 

The motion carried 4-0 with Commissioner Chestnut absent. 

There were no comments presented at this time. 

Commissioner Cornell stated that the county received an unsolicited proposal for low-income senior housing west of main street, and he would like to refer it to staff to work with the developer since it is aligned with the county goals. This was referred to staff by consensus. 

Commissioner Prizzia moved to ask staff to explore the issue of road and driveway lengths with regard to rural subdivisions and bring it back to the Board when they bring the code update in the new year.

Commissioner Prizzia moved to ask staff to bring back a presentation on e-mail notifications, text notifications and other ways that the public can get notifications. To learn how to be more engaged with the BOCC meetings and other community meeting opportunities related to the county.

Commissioner Prizzia asked for an update on the Micanopy land whenever possible. Commissioner Prizzia stated she had a meeting with Dr. Broadie, his staff team and Commissioner Desmond Duncan-Walker regarding gun violence prevention. Commissioner Prizzia would like to refer to staff to work with Santa Fe Collage to pull together a meeting with the sheriff, the cities, BOCC, court services, community support services and any other relevant stakeholders so that there could have an initial conversation about the what's happening, where are we with progress since the gun violence summit and get feedback from some of the most important stakeholders about next steps. 

Commissioner Cornell moved to ask staff to bring an update by first meeting in February.

Commissioner Cornell stated he met with executive director of the children's trust; they toured the new building purchased. Commissioner would like to thank staff for what they're doing to help the children's trust. The new facility is located in Thornebrooke Village off of 43rd if anyone would like to go see it. 

Chair Alford stated she had a meeting with County Manager Lieberman regarding the sports commission. Chair Alford stated she has asked for an update from the sports commission, and they are ready to give an update to the Board as soon as the next meeting or whenever possible. 

There being no further business before the Board, the meeting was adjourned at 11:25 a.m.
